Purtroppo no… non passa affatto molto tempo prima che Maarten richiami all’ordine la povera Giovanni. La telefonata arriva alle 6:00 dell’alba stessa della notte in cui i due hanno siglato l’accordo. L’appuntamento è per le 20:00 al vecchio rifugio di Jessica, visto che lei non vuole rischiare di compromettere la villa del Branco nel caso qualcuno avesse seguito lo Tzimisce. Questo implica che Jess esce di casa prima delle 19 per potersi anche cambiare con abiti consoni e che… non ha il coraggio di svegliare Luther per dargli la “bella” notizia. Lasciato solo un foglietto di spiegazione a Marianne si appresta a fare il suo viaggio con il Ductus degli Hijos de el Diablo, cosa che si riassume con un viaggio fino a Centralia, durato ben 5 ore, con tappa in autogril e conseguente uccisione di 3 persone. E… contrariamente a quanto promesso a Marianne, vittima della propria morale, Jess agisce si prontamente mettendo momentaneamente fuori gioco due dei tre uomini ( uno strappandogli l’anima, il secondo dominandolo) ma ovviamente entrambi, tornando in se, li riconoscerebbero… per cui è lo Tzimisce a finire il lavoro e di certo non è un buon inizio. Giunti nel motel dove trascorreranno il giorno i due vampiri comunque parlano un poco, Maarten cerca di spiegarle l’ importanza dell’ottica da soldato per proteggere i propri compagni e Jess si ripromette di smetterla di farsi troppi problemi. Prima che sorga il sole, come sorta di buono augurio per la sua iniziazione a vera guerriera del Sabbat, Maarten le disegna sulla schiena una morte a cavallo, una splendida rivisitazione del tarocco della morte la cui falce è in realtà la spada di Caino simbolo del Sabbat.
Sadly no … It didn’t even take too long before Maarten calls the poor Giovanni to order. The call arrived at 6:00 at dawn, in the same night when they sealed the deal. The appointment is at 20:00 at Jessica’s old shelter, since she doesn’t want to risk to compromise the Pack’s villa in case someone did follow the Tzimisce. This means that Jess has to get out begore 19 to change into better suited clothes, and that…. she’s not brave enough to wake up Luther in order to give him the “good” news. After leaving just a note explaining to Marianne, she gets ready to start her trip with the Hijos del Diablo’s Ductus, summarized in a trip to Centralia, last even 5 hours, with a stop at a service station, with consequent triple homicide. And… contrary to what she promised Marianne, victim of her own morality, Jess acts promptly and knocks out 2 of the men (one ripping out his soul, the other by dominating him), but of course the both of them would recignize them once back to their senses… so it’s the Tzimisce that finishes the job, and it definitely is not a good start. Arrived at the motel where the 2 vampires are going to pass the day, they talk a bit, Maarten tries to explain her the importance of protect one’s companions from a soldier’s point of view, and Jess takes a mental note to not worry too much. Before the sun rises, as a some sort of good wish for her initiation as Sabbat’s true warrior, Maarten draws on her back a riding Death, a gorgeous revisiting of the death’s tarot card, who’s scythe is actually Cain’s sword, symbol of the Sabbat.
